Jesse James Parr knows exactly what people see when they hear his name.
They think of 10-time Muay Thai world champion John Wayne Parr. The elbows. The wars. The 347 stitches etched across his dad’s face and scalp.

Hard to blame them, really.
On Saturday night, though, the 18-year-old gave fight fans something new to talk about, needing just 32 seconds to win his professional MMA debut.
But Jesse isn’t simply the son of an Aussie combat sports icon.
His mum, Angie Parr, is a former world champ herself, while older sister Jazzy has already established herself as one of Australia’s top female boxing talents and returns to the ring on a Matchroom Boxing card later this month.
In the Parr household, fighting isn’t just a passion. It’s the family business.
“It was a no-brainer for me to get into fighting,” Parr told Fox Sports Australia.
“From when I was born I’ve been involved.
“It was Muay Thai from the start. But then I fell in love with jiu-jitsu around 11 years old, and now I am putting it all together, my striking and my jujitsu.
“I’m also into acrobatics – the front flips, the back flips and the trampoline.
“And it was a no-brainer to go to MMA as well. It’s getting bigger and bigger every day, and there’s more money and more fame. So I’m trying to get the most out of it.”
The victory has already changed plenty.
Parr, who also goes by his dad’s moniker of ‘The Gunslinger’, admits he still hasn’t come down from the whirlwind few days that followed his debut, with his phone flooded by messages.
“I haven’t been able to sleep properly since the fight,” he said.
“I’ve just been so excited – it’s Monday and I’m still buzzing.”
Parr had already caught the attention of some of the world’s biggest MMA names before he even made the walk.
On the day of his debut, UFC featherweight champ Alex Volkanovski had lunch with the teenager, while Aussie light heavyweight powerhouse Jimmy Crute met up with him for dinner the following day.
“It’s surreal,” he said.
“These are the people I look up to the most.
“My phone was blowing up for two days straight. Fully just blowing up.
“I gained around 3000 followers overnight. So I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s a lot of messages.’
“I got back to everybody, but it was a lot.
“I think Israel Adesanya reposted my video as well, saying I’m the future.
“So to have those kinds of people behind me… I’m surrounded by legends.”
Parr is beginning his career with domestic promotion Eternal MMA, where a host of Australia’s top fighters have launched successful international careers.
His hope is to follow the same path.
“It’s always been my plan to one day make it to the UFC,” he said.
“So right now the plan is just to get as much experience as I can, and then when my team and my manager think I’m ready, I’m gonna go straight to the UFC.
“I don’t want to get in the UFC just for the sake of being in the UFC.
“I hope to be in the UFC in maybe two to three years, depending on how my injuries are. Three years max.
“I can’t rush it though. I’m still just 18, so we’ll see where it goes.”
And if he does eventually make it to the world’s biggest MMA promotion, Parr already knows the type of fighter he wants to become.
“Definitely Charles Oliveira,” he said.
“Charles Oliveira is one guy that I look up to, even outside of the Octagon.
“He’s so humble and so polite. He’s very family oriented.
“He’s one guy that I look up to a lot.
“I try to copy my dad’s style as much as possible too, but his style is so aggressive, and I get tired trying to copy him because he’s non-stop pressure.”

John Wayne Parr said watching son’s debut on the weekend made him “a very proud dad”.
“I’m happy the kids have decided to commit to competing in martial arts,” he said.
“Hopefully they get to experience the same international adventures I was able to enjoy.”
But don’t expect him to concede all the bragging rights just yet.
Asked whether Jesse is getting the better of him in the gym these days, the 10-time world champ grinned.
“No, what he has in skill, I still make up for in size.”
