Socceroos midfielder Cristian Volpato has allegedly tested positive for cocaine after being caught driving more than 50km/h over the speed limit in Sydney.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the 22-year-old was allegedly clocked driving his BMW at 109km/h in a 60km/h zone across the Anzac Bridge shortly after 1am on Friday.
Police also allege Volpato returned a positive roadside test for cocaine after initially telling officers he had not taken drugs.
Volpato is strongly denying using illicit substances, according to reports.
A secondary oral fluid sample was taken for further analysis.
The Daily Telegraph and Network 10 both report that he voluntarily underwent an independent drug test that returned a negative result, according to sources close to the Socceroos star.
The report states Volpato had been stopped approximately two hours earlier on the same bridge and issued with a fine after allegedly being caught driving more than 20km/h over the speed limit.
His international driver’s licence has since been suspended for six months. He has not been charged with a criminal offence.
Volpato emerged as one of Australia’s breakout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after making the shock decision to switch his international allegiance from Italy to the Socceroos on the eve of the tournament.

Born and raised in Sydney, Volpato famously moved to Italy as a teenager after being released by the Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers academies, earning a trial with AS Roma before making his Serie A debut at just 18 years of age.
