Brunson finished with 45 points, the most in a Finals-sealing win since Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021, and a franchise record for most points in a finals game.
“Holy s***,” a speechless and visibly emotional Brunson said to Lisa Salters post-game.
“I got no words. I don’t know what I’m feeling. I’m just in awe. Whenever someone counted us out we found a way to come back and do something about it.
“We’re going to find a way. Whatever you put in front of us, it doesn’t matter… every time.”
Brunson kept the Knicks within striking distance in the first half, heading into the break with 16 points. New York needed even more from its superstar after halftime, and he delivered. His finals MVP did not come as a surprise, with a dominant series from start to finish.
Across the championship series, he averaged 32.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 42.1 per cent from the field.
