‘Sheesh’: Gutting moment NBA veteran finds out he was sacked … via Twitter

Losing your job is one thing, but finding out you lost your job via Twitter is quite another.

Just ask Timberwolves forward Taurean Prince, who learned about his fate with the organisation on Wednesday following a tweet from NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, who reported Minnesota is declining to guarantee his $7.4 million USD contract for the 2023-24 season.

“Sheesh, appreciate the heads up Woj,” Prince tweeted on Wednesday.

Prince, a seven-year NBA veteran, was a 3-and-D weapon off the bench in Minnesota, where he averaged 9.1 points on nearly 40 per cent shooting from deep.

He began his career with the Hawks in 2016 and spent three seasons in Atlanta.

Prince was then traded to Brooklyn in 2019 and spent one-and-a-half seasons with the Nets until January 2021, when he was dealt to the Cavaliers.

The 29-year-old forward was traded to Minnesota in August 2021 and spent the past two seasons with the Timberwolves.

Though considered a valuable asset to any team with his ability to shoot the three and play defence against an opposing team’s top perimeter player, Prince has struggled with his availability on the court.

Prince missed time last season due to a shoulder injury and only appeared in 54 games.

He played in all 82 games in his second season in the league, when he scored a career-high 14.1 points per contest.

That said, Prince will likely have plenty of suitors when free agency begins later this week.

The Prince bomb isn’t the first time Wojnarowski has broken the news that someone is on their way out to them.

In 2022, former Lakers coach Frank Vogel was asked about a report from Wojnarowski, which alleged the coach would be fired after three seasons with the team – which included an NBA title – in a postgame press conference.

Vogel was fired by the Lakers in April 2022.
