Quillan Salkilld has got the fight he asked for.

And instead of facing Benoit Saint-Denis in New York, the Aussie rising star will take on the French danger man in front of a home crowd.

Gallen v Asofa-Solomona | Friday November 6 from 7pm AEDT | Australian sporting icon and crossover boxing king Paul Gallen returns to the ring to face his biggest opponent yet, Nelson ‘Big Nasty’ Asofa-Solomona. | Order now on Kayo Sports.

The UFC has revealed that Salkilld and Saint-Denis will headline UFC Fight Night Sydney at Afterpay Arena on Sunday, February 7, 2027.

It’s a huge opportunity for the hyped Perth phenom, who has won six straight fights in the UFC and is coming off back-to-back finishes of established contenders Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot.

Now he’ll face another dangerous test in Saint-Denis, who has already shown Aussie fans what he can do.

The former French special forces soldier known as ‘God of War’ stopped New Zealand star Dan Hooker in the second round at UFC 325 in Sydney earlier this year.

Salkilld also featured on that card, submitting fellow Australian Jamie Mullarkey in the opening round.

UFC senior vice president for Australia and New Zealand Peter Kloczko said the main event had everything the promotion was looking for.

“UFC Fight Night Sydney is set to be another huge moment for Australian fans, and Quillan Salkilld versus Benoît Saint Denis is a main event that delivers everything we look for in this sport,” Kloczko said.

“Quillan has been one of the breakout stars of the UFC’s lightweight division, while Benoît is one of the most dangerous and exciting finishers in the sport. Bringing this fight to Sydney will make for an unforgettable night.”

Salkilld made it clear he was interested in facing Saint-Denis after his first-round stoppage of Gamrot in August.

At the time, the Aussie larrakin had his sights set on a fight at Madison Square Garden in New York in November as he looked to climb towards a lightweight title shot.

“Yeah, 100%. (Benoit Saint-Denis) is the one I’ve had my eyes on for a bit,” Salkilld said on the post-fight show.

“All those guys in the top five, I don’t really care, as long as it moves me up the ladder towards the title shot, then I’m down for whatever.

“It looks like BSD is the only one that’s not (booked in the top 10), right? Yeah, he’s coming off a loss, but he didn’t get damaged in that fight so it’s definitely a cool matchup, I think.”

The fight continues a remarkable run for Salkilld, who earned his UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series before announcing himself to Australian fans with a 19-second knockout of Anshul Jubli on debut at UFC 312 in Sydney.

He has kept winning ever since, with his first-round stoppage of Gamrot further underlining his credentials as a contender in one of the UFC’s most competitive divisions.

Saint-Denis presents a different kind of challenge. Known for his pressure and willingness to engage, the explosive Frenchman will return to the same arena where he overwhelmed Hooker.

The event will mark the first UFC Fight Night in Sydney since 2017 and the fourth consecutive year the promotion has held an event in NSW.

“We are proud to return to Sydney and grateful for the continued support of Destination NSW and the NSW Government,” Kloczko said.

“UFC Fight Night Sydney will showcase world-class athletes, create an incredible experience for fans and further strengthen New South Wales’ position as a leading destination for major sporting events.”

More bouts for UFC Fight Night Sydney are expected to be announced shortly as the card for the promotion’s return to Australia takes shape.
