Leeds’ stunning start to the 2025/26 Premier League season has continued, after demolishing Newcastle 4-1 to climb up to third on the table.
A Lewis Miley own goal opened the floodgates before Jayden Bogle, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor completed the rout at Elland Road, and made for a punishing first defeat for Magpies boss Matthias Jaissle.
Newcastle had made a positive start under Jaissle despite the upheaval of losing manager Eddie Howe and key players Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali in the off-season.

Despite being owned by the financial might of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, Newcastle targeted rising stars to fill the void of those that left and were outmuscled by a more experienced Leeds.
A bad night for the visitors began inside the first 20 minutes when Nico Gonzalez had to be replaced as a concussion substitute.
That left 18-year-old Sean Steur and Lewis Miley, 20, together at the heart of the Newcastle midfield and the later unfortunately had the final touch after Ao Tanaka’s strike took two deflections before looping into the net.
The visitors failed to regain their composure as just two minutes later Leeds doubled their advantage.
Calvert-Lewin rose highest to meet James Justin’s cross but his header flicked off Bogle as it found the bottom corner and the right-back was given the goal.
Leeds’ number nine did not have to wait long to make sure he did score for the fifth consecutive league game at Elland Road.
Calvert-Lewin bulldozed his way past Sven Botman before sliding the ball under Lukas Hornicek in the Newcastle goal.
Anton Stach should have added a fourth early in the second period when he pounced on a slack Hornicek pass out from the pack but dinked the ball just wide.
Okafor did make it 4-0 before the hour mark when he volleyed in from the edge of the box after Newcastle failed to clear a long throw.
Bazoumana Toure netted a consolation in stoppage time to reduce Newcastle’s arrears, but the damage was long since done.
Such was the scale of the dominance that manager Daniel Farke was visibly upset with conceding late, as Leeds missed the opportunity for their first four-goal Premier League win since 2001.
“For each and every manager it would be a nightmare after such a game to concede so late,” Farke said post-match.
“It doesn’t take anything away from my boys – brilliant. Perfect start with eight points.
“But it’s never perfect. There’s always something to moan about.”
The reaction for Newcastle has been as swift as it has been brutal.
“An absolute s**t show,” England football great Alan Shearer wrote on X midway through the match.
“3-0 at HT is embarrassing.”
Having made a surprise unbeaten start to the Premier League season via draws with Liverpool and Bournemouth and a 2-0 away win over Tottenham Hotspur, the heavy defeat serves as a reality check for the Magpies ahead of what is expected to be a development season.
Leeds, meanwhile, have continued on from their excellent end to the 2025/26 season, with victory taking Farke’s men on to eight points from their opening four games – behind only defending champions Arsenal and Manchester City.
The win pushes them past Australian young sensation Lucas Herrington’s Hull, who also remain unbeaten, on goal difference.

“Leeds are fifth in the Premier League table since December. That should make Newcastle feel better,” former great Jamie Carragher said on Sky Sports
“It has been a bad night for them when the world was watching.
“They have been beaten up by a really good Premier League team.
“It will be a tough season at times for Newcastle with the manager and young players finding their feet in the Premier League.
“They just got beaten up out there today.”
Newcastle remain on five points but slip down to 12th due to their negative goal difference.
