SOCCEROOS TEEN ON VERGE OF EPL MOVE
Socceroos young gun Lucas Herrington is reportedly on the verge of securing a dream move to the Premier League, with negotiations for the highly-rated defender entering their final stages.
According to transfer journalist Rudy Galetti, an unnamed Premier League club is in advanced talks to sign the 18-year-old Colorado Rapids centre-back, who has quickly established himself as one of Australia’s most exciting young football prospects.
Herrington has been heavily linked with several of Europe’s biggest clubs in recent months, including Liverpool and Barcelona, after an impressive rise that also saw him break into the Socceroos setup.
While Galetti did not name the club involved, there is growing belief Arsenal could be leading the race.
The Gunners and Colorado Rapids are both owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, a relationship that could help facilitate a move to North London.
The report adds that Herrington is eager to complete the transfer, with a move to the Premier League long regarded as the teenager’s ultimate ambition.
SOCCEROOS SKIPPER RETURNS TO SPAIN
Socceroos captain Mathew Ryan will return to Spain for another season after Levante UD confirmed the experienced goalkeeper has re-signed with the club for the 2026-27 campaign.
Ryan, 34, proved to be one of Levante’s most important players last season, making 36 league appearances as the club successfully avoided relegation from La Liga.
Levante announced the deal on Saturday, welcoming the Australian international back for another campaign.
“Mathew Ryan will once again wear the Levante UD shirt after the agreement reached between both parties for the current season,” the club said in a statement.
“The goalkeeper arrived at the Levante club last summer and, during the league competition, defended the Granota goal on 36 occasions.”
The upcoming campaign will mark Ryan’s 14th season in European football, with the veteran goalkeeper having also represented clubs including RC Lens, AS Roma and Arsenal.

CHELSEA PUNISHED OVER 74 RULE BREACHES
Chelsea have been hit with a £10 million (A$19 million) fine and a suspended two-window transfer ban after admitting to 74 breaches of English Football Association regulations spanning more than a decade.
The sanctions stem from an investigation into historical breaches committed between 2009 and 2022, with the FA stating the majority occurred during the 2010-11 to 2015-16 seasons under former owner Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea was initially handed a suspended six-point deduction by an independent Regulatory Commission but successfully appealed the punishment.
It has since been replaced by a suspended two-window transfer ban, which will remain inactive until June 30, 2027, unless the club commits similar offences.
The FA’s charges, first announced in September, related to breaches involving agent regulations, working with intermediaries and third-party investment in players.
“Chelsea FC admitted to the 74 breaches of FA Rule E1.2 prior to a hearing and an independent Regulatory Commission imposed a six-point deduction, which was to be suspended until 30 June 2027, and a £10 million fine,” the FA said in a statement.
“The club appealed against the suspended points deduction and an independent Appeal Board allowed the appeal and set aside this sanction.
“In its place, the Appeal Board imposed a registration ban for two complete and consecutive transfer windows, which is suspended until 30 June 2027.“
The FA also confirmed it is continuing to investigate potential individual misconduct arising from the case.
Chelsea welcomed the outcome, noting the offences were voluntarily self-reported by the club following the ownership change in 2022.
“Chelsea Football Club is pleased to confirm that a final decision has been reached by The FA’s judicial bodies in relation to historical regulatory matters that were self-reported by the club,” the club said.

“In 2022, the club self-reported potential historical rule breaches to all applicable regulators. Following that report, it worked openly and transparently with all regulators, including voluntarily and proactively disclosing many thousands of documents.
“As previously announced, settlement agreements have been entered into with UEFA and the Premier League concerning the same self-reported regulatory matters. The club is pleased to confirm that, now The FA process has concluded, this brings all regulatory proceedings against the club to a close.”
The latest punishment takes Chelsea’s total financial penalties for the historical breaches to more than £18 million, after UEFA fined the club €10 million in 2023 over the same matters.
