His departure, after years of growth and success in Boston, sets the tone for a major shift across the NBA, while the Sixers continue to find themselves at the centre of wider league speculation, including ongoing chatter around LeBron James and a possible move that would further reshape their future.

BROWN SAYS FAREWELL TO BOSTON

For a decade, Jaylen Brown was one of the faces of the Boston Celtics. Now, after a blockbuster trade sent him to the Philadelphia 76ers, the five-time All-Star has spoken publicly for the first time about a move that has stunned the NBA.

Brown broke his silence on social media following Boston’s decision to trade him to Philadelphia in exchange for veteran forward Paul George and a package of draft picks, bringing an abrupt end to one of the league’s most successful partnerships alongside Jayson Tatum.

The 29-year-old admitted he is still coming to terms with the move, describing a mix of emotions after spending 10 seasons in Boston.

“I’m still processing how this all went down,” he said.

“I’m excited and disappointed at the same time. I earned my respect from this city. I never asked for shortcuts or special treatment. I simply showed up every day, put my head down, and accepted every challenge.”

Brown’s departure marks the end of an era for the Celtics. Drafted third overall in 2016, he developed into one of the franchise’s cornerstone players, earning five All-Star selections and helping deliver the organisation’s 18th NBA championship in 2024, where he was named Finals MVP.

In his statement, Brown thanked the city, the fans and those within the organisation who supported him throughout his journey.

“Saying goodbye isn’t easy when you’ve invested your heart into something.

“I’m big on respect and actions speak louder than words. To the people of Boston, thank you.

“The relationships I built here, the battles we fought together, the championship we brought to this city, and the connection I shared with the fans, I’ll carry on with me.

“As one chapter closes, another begins.

Brown’s exit has been met with widespread criticism from analysts and fans, particularly given the form he showed throughout the 2025-26 season. With Tatum sidelined for much of the year, Brown carried Boston’s offence and produced the best campaign of his career, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while finishing sixth in MVP voting.

The trade also comes just weeks after Celtics president Brad Stevens publicly described Brown as “a big part of us” amid growing speculation about his future.

Despite the disappointment surrounding his departure, Brown made it clear he is ready to embrace the next chapter of his career in Philadelphia.

“To the city of Philadelphia, I’m excited for what’s ahead,” Brown wrote.

“I know respect isn’t given, it’s earned. I’m looking forward to getting to work and building something special.”

The 76ers have made one of the boldest moves of the off-season by acquiring Brown, adding a proven two-way star entering the prime of his career. Philadelphia eliminated Boston in the first round of last season’s playoffs, and now Brown finds himself joining the very team that ended the Celtics’ campaign.

While Brown’s focus has already shifted towards his future, his farewell message reflected the deep connection he built with Boston over 10 years.

“What we accomplished together will stay with me forever,” Brown said.

“Thank you, Boston.”

LEBRON TO 76ERS GAINING MOMENTUM

The Philadelphia 76ers have already shaken up the NBA with the acquisition of Jaylen Brown, but some fans are already dreaming of an even bigger move.

Speculation surrounding a potential pursuit of LeBron James intensified this week after a social media post from the brother of Philadelphia president of basketball operations Mike Gansey quickly caught the attention of NBA fans.

Steven Gansey is the brother of Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Mike Gansey, whose connection to LeBron James stretches back more than two decades.

The relationship is rooted in Ohio’s basketball scene, where both Gansey and James emerged as elite high school talents. In 2001, Gansey finished runner-up to James in the voting for Ohio Mr. Basketball, highlighting just how highly regarded he was as a young player.

After his playing career ended, Gansey moved into the front office ranks in 2011 and steadily built a reputation as one of the NBA’s rising executives. During James’ second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Gansey oversaw the organisation’s G League operations before being promoted to assistant general manager under Koby Altman in 2017.

Gansey later served as Cleveland’s general manager before leaving in 2022, and was appointed president of basketball operations for the 76ers following the departure of Daryl Morey.

Given Gansey’s long-standing history with James, the connection adds another intriguing layer to the growing speculation linking the four-time NBA champion with a move to Philadelphia.

Reports this week suggested Philadelphia has joined a growing list of teams interested in signing James following his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat have also been heavily connected to the NBA icon as the league waits to see where he will play next.

The possibility of James landing in Philadelphia has become even more intriguing after the Sixers’ blockbuster trade for Brown.

By pairing Brown with former MVP Joel Embiid and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia has already assembled a roster capable of challenging for a championship. Adding James to that core would instantly transform the franchise into one of the favourites to come out of the Eastern Conference.

Philadelphia is expected to make its pitch, but James continues to have multiple options available as he weighs the next chapter of his historic career. The 41-year-old remains one of the most sought-after players in basketball despite entering his 24th NBA season, with teams across the league exploring ways to add the all-time great to their roster.
