Record-breaking slugger Harjas Singh is one step closer towards making a long-awaited professional debut, earning a rookie contract with Cricket New South Wales for the 2026/27 season.
The 21-year-old, who represented Australia during the triumphant 2024 Under-19 World Cup campaign, created global headlines last summer by smacking a triple-century during a one-day match for Western Suburbs’ first-grade side.
Singh’s 314 from 141 balls against Sydney Cricket Club in Ashfield, which featured 35 sixes, was the highest individual score in Australian premier first-grade limited-over history, finishing the season with 1109 runs across both formats for Western Suburbs.

On Tuesday morning, Cricket NSW confirmed the left-hander has earned his maiden contract with the state, joining Charlie Anderson and Jake Scott on the rookie list, while fellow young gun Riley Kingsell has been elevated to a full contract.
Wicketkeeper Matt Gilkes, who has moved to South Australia, and batter Blake Nikitaras drop off the contract list, while veteran seamer Chris Tremain has retired.
Elsewhere, the Blues have signed former West Australian fast bowler Bryce Jackson, who was the leading wicket-taker among seamers during last summer’s One-Day Cup with 15 scalps at 22.13.
“This is an exciting time for the Blues, with an opportunity for our stable playing group to build further momentum and compete strongly across both formats,” Greg Mail, Cricket NSW Chief Cricket Performance Officer, said in a statement.
“We are excited by the growth from within our system, highlighted by the elevation of Riley Kingsell to a full contract and Harjas Singh to the rookie list.
“We’re also pleased to welcome Bryce Jackson to our program. Bryce’s white-ball record is excellent, and he adds pace and depth to our bowling attack.”
New South Wales, the reigning One-Day Cup champions, enter a new era next summer with former Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin taking over as head coach.
