Players cut: 21. Loko Jnr Pasifiki Tonga 22. Lyhkan King-Togia

Late Mail: Coach Shane Flanagan said on Thursday there were “one or two” changes he was considering in addition to the forced ones he made, with Tyrell Sloan replacing the injured Clint Gutherson and Kyle Flanagan returning in place of Lyhkan King-Togia. However, he said he has “put a lot of faith” in those players, adding that while it is not “their last opportunity” they have been “given an opportunity” to turn it around, suggesting changes could be on the cards soon if they do not lift. Earlier in the week, The Dragons have confirmed that co-captain Clint Gutherson will miss the next three weeks and are “hopeful to have him back on the field” in Round 9 after scans showed he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Young five-eighth Joseph O’Neill (pec strain) is also set to return in Round 7 or 8 and could come into halves contention in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Dylan Egan (ACL) and Nick Tsougranis (syndesmosis) are slated to return within the next month.

Players cut:

Late Mail: Adam Reynolds was named in the side to take on the Cowboys but Thomas Duffy will run out in his place. “Reyno did all the running. He was OK with that, but he just felt the kicking part was something that wasn’t where it needed to be,” Broncos coach Michael Maguire said on Thursday. Maguire added he was “really looking forward” to seeing Duffy get his shot. “He’s fitted in really well. He came in on day one, ripped into the pre-season and he’s earning everything he’s doing,” Maguire said. “He’s really good at being able to organise a team and he’s got a great kicking game. Tommy, he just needs to play his part and do his job, as we say. I know he’ll do that for us.” Meanwhile, Test centre Gehamat Shibasaki is back in the starting line-up after injuries to Reece Walsh and Grant Anderson — and he’s fessed up that he was dropped due to fronting for this season with substandard fitness. “I had to fix up some of the little stuff at home with my eating and stuff like that to get back in the team,” he told CODE Sports. “I had to get my body right.”

Late Mail: Jack Howarth and Moses Leo are both good to go in a welcome return for the Storm, who could also welcome back Shawn Blore soon. After a disrupted pre-season he got in a full 80 minutes for reserve grade and Storm director of football Frank Ponissi said Blore will be back in the frame for selection next week. Meanwhile, Ativalu Lisati (calf) is another two or three weeks away.
