LIVE: Black Caps opener tearing Aussie bowlers apart after Kiwis win toss and bat first

Australia takes on New Zealand in the first of its three T20I contests at Sky Stadium in Wellington.

Black Caps captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bat first. Steve Smith was left out, with Matthew Short slotting into the middle order.

New Zealand is 0-51 after four overs, with Black Caps opener Finn Allen already clobbering three sixes.

The two nations will compete for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, but both will no doubt view this series as key preparation for the T20 World Cup in June this year.

With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, Smith must make a statement in the T20I series against the Kiwis if he is to retain his spot.

History is also on Australia’s side for the first T20I having won three of its four contests against New Zealand at Sky Stadium.

However, the Kiwis will feel confident having dropped just one of its last eight bilateral T20I series’ on home turf.
