‘Make him squeal’: Tszyu pledges to ‘hurt’ US rival as four-week, five-card March Mayhem unveiled

Tim Tszyu has vowed to make American superstar Keith Thurman “squeal” when headlining what has suddenly become a blockbuster month for Australian sports fans – with promoters No Limit set to host five separate events across what is being dubbed ‘March Mayhem’.

Fox Sports Australia can reveal some of Australian boxing’s biggest names – think Tszyu, Sam Goodman, Liam Wilson, Michael Zerafa and Isaac Hardman – will all be throwing down either here or in the United States as No Limit delivers a stacked start to 2024.

Currently the world’s No.1 contender at super bantamweight, Goodman is set to put his mandatory title status on the line when he headlines an all-Australian showdown against Mark ‘Magic Man’ Schleibs on March 13.

While the venue has yet to be announced for the Wednesday night Pay-Per-View, it can be revealed Hardman will also feature as he looks to continue his own push up through the middleweight rankings against Mexican-based Endry Saavedra.

Incredibly, the event will be one of three in as many weeks – sandwiched between two No Limit on Fox events.

Those cards will be headlined by resurrected Sydney cruiserweight Bilal Akkawy – long considered one of the nation’s biggest punchers pound-for-pound – and popular super featherweight Nathaniel ‘Cheeky’ May.

Akkawy will face Renold Quinlan on Wednesday, March 6, while May throws down against Tyson Lantry on Wednesday, March 20.

All of which then builds towards the huge Las Vegas debut of ‘The Soul Taker’.

While his WBO super welterweight title will not be on the line, Tszyu is set to face the biggest test of his undefeated career when he headlines against Thurman in Las Vegas on Sunday, March 31 (AEST).

On the same evening inside a heaving T-Mobile Arena, fellow Australian Michael Zerafa will also finally get his long-awaited title shot against WBA middleweight champ Erislandy Lara.

And to round out what is being dubbed as one of the biggest weekends in Aussie boxing history, popular Caboolture product Wilson – aka ‘Mr Damage’ – will fight a super featherweight world title eliminator against Mexico’s Oscar Valdez in Glendale, Arizona just 24 hours earlier.

That fight will also be shown live on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports.

All of which No Limit CEO George Rose dubs “our craziest concept yet”.

“Straight off the back of our record breaking 2024, No Limit Boxing is kicking off with a bang and the launch of ‘March Mayhem’,” Rose said.

“It’s easily our craziest concept to date.

“Five all-action, fight nights crammed into just four weeks both in Australia and the U.S.

“It’s going to be a stellar year for No Limit Boxing once again with massive events all over the globe, and I’m stoked with the bumper schedule we’ve put together for fans.

“There’s next generation prodigies, all Aussie showdowns, career-defining nights and world title action – there’s so much jammed into this month, and we’ve got a whole lot more to add soon.”

And at the top of the billing is Tszyu.

Speaking with Fight Hub TV after a fiery press conference in the US this week, Tszyu doubled down on his promise to knock Thurman cold.

“He’s a certain character who brings that energy,” the champ started of his rival, who has been sidelined for the best part of two years due to a range of issues, including injury.

“And hopefully he brings that energy to the fight because it’s going to be a long night for him.”

Asked about Thurman questioning his style as that of a slow, flat-footed Mexican, Tszyu continued: “Don’t disrespect my style because I hurt people.

“He’s a decision guy.

“A split decision guy.

“I win by a big, big points difference or I knock ‘em out.”

And as for what they were saying during the first face off after the press conference was done?

“I just said I’m going to make him squeal,” Tszyu revealed, grinning.

“And mark my words he will be squealing in the ring.

“I think he’s great, but that’s the past.

“This is the present … and I’m levels above him.

“He doesn’t know what he’s in for.

“He has plenty of energy, I love his energy.

“But he’s in for a big, big surprise.

“And when he’s squealing he’ll be thinking about everything he said.”
