‘Out of this world’: ‘Astonishing’ spell blows Test WIDE open as Aus looks shaky – LIVE

Steve Smith was mowing down the run chase at a rapid rate, but Shamar Joseph returned from a toe injury to rock Australia with five quick wickets to set up a thrilling climax.

Australia are 7-171 in their second innings in the first session of day four, still needing 45 for victory, with Steve Smith (70) and Pat Cummins (0) at the crease.

After being cleared of a suspected broken toe follwing Mitchell Starc’s toe crusher, Shamar Joseph is back on the field and bowling for the West Indies.

Joseph bowled Cameron Green through the gate for 42, as Australia lost their third wicket.

“Inspired performance to be out there,” Adam Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket.

“The door is fractionally ajar,” Kerry O’Keeffe added.

Joseph then bowled Travis Head first ball for a king pair with a ripping yorker at off-stump.

“Can you believe what we’re seeing?” Gilchrist said.

“It is the worst possible feeling for Travis Head.

“Game back on.”

Mitch Marsh could only manage 10, before he was Joseph’s third scalp of the morning caught by a juggling act at slip.

Alex Carey came and went for 2 with Joseph taking figures of 4-23 in a stunning spell.

“This young fella is creating history here today,” Ian Smith said.

“This is just out of this world. Absolutely astonishing.”

Mitchell Starc smashed four fours in his 21, before he was caught to give Joseph back-to-back five-wicket hauls capping a remarkable spell.

The hosts were 2-60 at stumps chasing a 216-run target for victory and to secure a 2-0 series victory over the touring West Indies outfit.

While day four is scheduled to kick off at 3pm (AEDT), the Bureau of Meteorology is predicted between 27 to 79mm of rain to fall on Sunday.

A “possibly severe” thunderstorm is also being forecasted with “very high change of showers” and a top of 30 degrees which could see the summer’s final Test conclude on day five.

Steve Smith (33*) and Cameron Green (9*) are the batters currently at the crease, with the hosts needed 156 runs to record another Test victory.

The West Indies have a big job on their hands to take eight quick wickets and have an injury to star seamer Shamar Joseph to contend with.

The fast bowler copped a toe-crushing yorker from Mitchell Starc which forced him to retire and whilst walking off the field he couldn’t put pressure on his right foot.
