Storm rising star’s bumper extension; Knights poach Panthers prodigy: Transfer Whispers

The Storm are reportedly close to signing rising star Sua Faalogo on a contract that could see him remain in Melbourne until the end of 2027.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting Faalogo’s management have held positive talks with Melbourne powerbrokers in recent weeks.

The gun fullback reportedly wants to remain at the club and learn from both current No.1 Ryan Papenhuyzen and legendary flyer Billy Slater.

While Faalogo could find himself in Craig Bellamy’s starting 17 in 2024, he will have to bide his time to start at fullback.

Nick Meaney filled the role in 2023 due to an ugly knee injury Papenhuyzen suffered in 2022, performing admirably in his absence.

However, Faalogo is reportedly happy to be patient and won’t attempt to force his way into the side.

Faalogo was damaging for Samoa in this year’s Pacific Championships and also scored a double in his NRL debut against the Broncos last season.

KNIGHTS POACH PANTHERS PRODIGY

The Newcastle Knights have reportedly poached one of the best teenage centres in rugby league from the Penrith Panthers.

Wide World of Sports reported former Australia Schoolboy representative that Wilson De Courcey signed with the Knights for next season.

The 18-year-old from the Patrician Brothers, Blacktown, was signed to the Panthers for 2024, but the Knights have secured his release from the Penrith to switch to Newcastle.

De Courcey is expected to spend next season in the SG Ball Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup before progressing through the club’s system and will likely be given the opportunity to play in the NSW Cup at some stage.

The Knights will undertake a succession plan is to move De Courcey into the Top 30 squad for the 2025 season.

The Knights will be hoping the gun centre can develop into a star of the future and take over from Dane Gagai in the centres when he hangs up the boots.

The partnership of De Courcey and Bradman Best would be a potent duo in the centres if the young gun lives up to his potential.
