‘Someone could die of s*** like that’: UFC fighters fume after ‘utterly disgusting’ stoppage

UFC and MMA fighters have been left enraged after what Michael Bisping described as an “utterly disgusting stoppage” in Jalin Turner’s knockout win over Bobby Green.

Turner, who came into Sunday’s fight off back-to-back losses to Dan Hooker and Mateusz Gamrot, delivered a show-stopping performance as he dropped Green with a big right hand.

Turner then quickly followed it up with another shot that sent Green falling face first to the canvas, with the fight seemingly on the brink of being called by referee Kerry Hatley.

Instead, a near-defenceless Green was left to sustain even more damage as Turner unloaded a brutal barrage of punches.

“What is going on?” Daniel Cormier said in commentary.

The fight was eventually called with Turner’s hand raised, although he even admitted post-fight to being surprised that Hatley did not stop it sooner.

“I was like come on. Like how much more,” Turner said.

“Bobby was a little wobbled. I’ve got to go until they pull me off, that’s part of my job.”

Bisping was particularly livid with Hatley, who he said is a “great referee” but clearly made a mistake on Sunday that could have had far greater consequences.

“That was disgusting,” Bisping said.

“He was face down, he was getting teed off on by a world-class, very powerful striker. Bobby Green is still down… Kerry Hatley is a great referee, but what the hell was he waiting for? “It’s as simple as that. Peoples’ lives are at stake, their long-term health is at stake. That was utterly disgusting and disgraceful. I bet if he was face down on the octagon with people cracking him in the face he’d want it stopped sooner.”

Bisping was not the only one who felt that way, with a number of UFC fighters taking to social media to express their disgust.
