‘What is going on there?’: ‘Greatest wicketkeeper catch of all-time’ goes viral

Sorry wicketkeepers, the greatest catch ever taken by a glovesman has been recorded.

In a contest between KPA 123 and KCSA Calicut in the Kerala Premier League, a catch you’ll never see again in the history of cricket was taken.

With two overs in the books and KPA 123 well on top having claimed four wickets, their joy reached new heights on the first ball of the third over.

Left arm quick Firas Mohammed delivered a peach of a ball that swung across the face of the batsmen and came flying off the outside edge.

KPA 123’s keeper dived to his right with the ball (for transparency sake they’re playing with a red tennis ball) bouncing out of his glove and up into the air.

This is where things reach the point of you wouldn’t believe us unless you actually see it with your own eyes.

After fumbling the catch, the keeper is left on his stomach on the turf as the ball lands on his back where it comes to rest.

Again, we’re absolutely not kidding here.

The ball begins to roll up his spine as the keeper quickly goes into seal mode to balance the ball on his back before putting his arms by his side and trapping it to complete the most absurd catch you’ll ever see.

KCSA Calicut’s innings eventually came to an end after seven overs with 32 runs on the board.

The lowly tally was light work for KPA 123 who chased down the score after 4.4 overs to record a six wicket victory.

But it was the catch that stole the show with X account That’s So Village labelling it “the greatest wicketkeeper catch of all-time”.

Cricket writer Kat Harris wrote: “The use of a tennis ball, and the commentator suggesting there was “something on it” but he can’t be sure because he wasn’t watching, might just put this in the top three most village clips of all time.”

The hilarious scenes come after “proper village stuff” unfolded at the Cricket World Cup.

Afghanistan’s struggles against Bangladesh were summed up when tailender Mujeeb Ur Rahman walked out to bat without wearing a box or athletic protector.

“Well, that’s a mistake at any given time of the day. That should be the first thing that you put in your package,” said Matthew Hayden.

“That is proper village stuff, that,” added Simon Doull.

“You can’t hide it, chief, we all know. He’s trying to hide in his hand. You can’t hide it. We all know what’s going on. Oh Mujeeb, you’re lucky it’s a spinner on.”
