Hawks star Trae Young’s 41 points has propelled his team to a heartstopping 120-119 win over Joe Ingles’ Orlando Magic in Mexico City.

Atlanta guard Dejounte Murray made a three pointer with 31 seconds on the clock to give the Hawks the late lead which they wouldn’t relinquish.

Young scored 33 of his 41 points in the first half, tying a career high after achieving the same feat against the Pacers in March 2022.

The Magic built up a ten point lead in the second half but were unable to hold on, however Ingles can keep his head up high for his efforts off the bench.

The savvy veteran was everywhere in his 18 minutes on the court for Orlando, recording five assists, three rebounds and three steals in addition to a staggering plus/minus figure of +27, easily a game high.

The loss dropped the Magic to 4-4 while the Hawks improved to a 5-3 record.

STAR’S HALF-CENTURY NOT ENOUGH

Giannis Antetokounmpo exploded for a season-high 54 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Damian Lillard-less Milwaukee Bucks fell to the Indiana Pacers 126-124 on Friday (all times AEDT).

From his 54 points, Antetokounmpo shot an efficient 16-of-18 from the free throw line and racked up 12 rebounds, all of which were season-highs, a day after he was controversially ejected from his side’s win over Detroit.

But it was Tyrese Haliburton who had the last laugh on Friday as Indiana’s hero with the match-winning three-pointer, capping off a big showing with 29 points, five triples and 10 assists.

According to EPSN Stats and Info, Antetokounmpo became the first player in NBA history to lose a game with 50 points, 75 per cent field percentage and 10 rebounds in a contest.

Indiana got the early jump with a 27-9 lead in the first quarter as the fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse were vocal.

But Milwaukee gradually clawed back at the scoreboard throughout the second term including Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton leading the visitors on the offensive end to make it a 66-60 Pacers lead at the main break.

The Bucks pushed ahead 74-73 in the third quarter after Antetokounmpo scored 12 points in the opening three and a half minutes of the period.

It became an arm wrestle from there as both sides traded blows before the Bucks started to get on top early in the fourth term.

Malik Beasley made two threes within a minute to stretch out their lead to 104-96 with 10:05 left in the final stanza and the Bucks ballooned their advantage out to double digits in the following minutes.

Antetokounmpo looked like closing the door on the Pacers with consecutive buckets to make it a 117-108 Milwaukee lead with 5:18 on the clock.

But Indiana quickly erased that deficit with a 7-0 run capped off by Myles Turner’s driving layup to bring it back to a one-possession game before Bennedict Mathurin’s layup tied up the scores at 119-119 with 2:30 left.

After Cam Payne put the Bucks back ahead, Haliburton responded with the game-winning three with 1:29 remaining and the Pacers made their free throws down the stretch to ice the win, with Middleton missing a potential game-tying shot.

Mathurin (26 points, 11 rebounds, three triples) and Turner (21 points, four threes) also came up big for the Pacers, who had 20 makes beyond the arc as a team. It marked Indiana’s third-straight win to improve to 6-3 on the season.

Middleton meanwhile scored a season-high 19 as he ramps back up after off-season knee surgery. The Bucks fell to 5-3 overall.

Lillard missed the game due to calf soreness on the second end of a back-to-back set for Adrian Griffin’s team.
