Bronny James appears to have escaped a tragic outcome after suffering cardiac arrest earlier this week.
James, an incoming freshman on USC’s basketball team and the oldest son of Lakers superstar LeBron James, suffered cardiac arrest while practicing on Monday.
Cedars-Sinai Medical Group cardiologist Merije Chukumerije said in a statement Thursday that Bronny “has been discharged home, where he is resting.”

“Thanks to the swift and effective response by the USC athletics’ medical staff, Bronny James was successfully treated for a sudden cardiac arrest,” the statement read.
“He arrived at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center fully conscious, neurologically intact and stable. Mr. James was cared for promptly by highly-trained staff and has been discharged home, where he is resting.
“Although his workup will be ongoing, we are hopeful for his continued progress and are encouraged by his response, resilience, and his family and community support.”
The 19-year-old has yet to publicly address the incident.Earlier Thursday, LeBron James expressed his gratitude for everyone who has reached out with support.
“I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” James tweeted.
“We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!”
The Lakers star was photographed visiting his son on Wednesday, wearing a mask and carrying what appeared to be an iPad.
It is unclear what caused Bronny’s cardiac arrest, which came during a Trojans workout on Monday at USC’s Galen Center. The 6-foot-3 combo guard and four-star recruit was reportedly unconscious before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Two weeks prior, Bronny joined his parents and siblings — brother Bryce, 16, and sister Zhuri, 8 — at the ESPYs in Los Angeles.
He is draft-eligible in 2024 and projected to be a first-round pick in the draft.
