Tim Tszyu may have demolished Carlos Ocampo in little over a minute on Sunday, but the Aussie’s mum consoled the Mexican in a classy act of sportsmanship.

Tszyu needed only 72 seconds to claim victory after knocking Ocampo down early and finishing the job with a barrage of blows that left the challenger sprawling on the canvas.

The first round victory cemented Tszyu’s status as the mandatory challenger to unified super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo and sent a huge statement to the American superstar.

Charlo has delayed a fight with Tszyu as he recovers from a hand injury, but Tszyu’s performances against Tony Harrison and now Ocampo have him primed to face Charlo in a bout set for Las Vegas in September.

Tszyu remains undefeated and takes his record to 23-0 (17 KOs).

The emphatic victory made commentators and America’s boxing fraternity sit up and take notice, with former world champion Shawn Porter declaring Tszyu’s form is so strong he is now the favourite to beat Charlo.

But while Tszyu was being congratulated by Porter and Aussie legend Jeff Fenech on the Main Event broadcast, Tszyu’s mum was consoling the man he just beat to a pulp.

Main Event’s cameras showed Natalia Tszyu entering Ocampo’s changeroom to console him after the brutal loss.

Ocampo was emotional after the loss and Natalia embraced him, offering her commiserations and putting her hand on his face.

It was a seriously classy act by an opponent’s mother and Tim didn’t seem overly surprised by his mum’s kind gesture to Ocampo.

Porter said: “Look at that. That’s a mama being a mama right there. They care about everybody.”

Tszyu added: “100 per cent. I could understand what he’s feeling. This is a hostile crowd.

“This is pretty crazy. To be the outsider, of course it’s intimidating.”

The 28-year-old’s mum has remained a steady presence in his life following her split with world champion Kostya Tszyu, who moved to his native Russia years ago to start a new family.

Natalia attends her sons Tim and Nikita’s fights ringside, but wasn’t part of Tim’s entourage that celebrated the victory in the ring.
