Storm coach Craig Bellamy delivered a surprising assessment of Broncos star Patrick Carrigan’s game-changing sin bin on Thursday night.
Carrigan was controversially binned over an alleged hip-drop tackle on Nelson Asofa-Solomona with the scores locked at 10-10 in the 55th minute.
Melbourne scored eight points with Carrigan off the field and ran out 24-16 victors and Brisbane coach Kevin Walters was left filthy with the decision to march one of his best players.

Hip-drop charges are on track to triple in 2023 and Bellamy was asked how he thought the offence was being officiated this season and if Carrigan deserved to be binned.
“I think we’re very inconsistent with it and I think Patrick tonight was very unlucky to go to the sin bin,” Bellamy said.
“I’m thinking along the lines of Kevvie’s thinking there, I think it was a really tough decision to send him to the sin bin but that was the way the game went tonight.”

The Storm had a late try ruled out despite there being no knock on and they copped a penalty try against them in the first half.
“It came off Justin’s head and Xavier goes 100m but we don’t check upstairs, we just rule straight away… I’m not quite sure (how that happened),” Bellamy said.
“I thought (the penalty try) was a little bit tough but it doesn’t matter what I think, it’s what the Bunker thinks and what the ref thinks, it’s done now.
“We’re just happy we got a win.”
