Three-time AFL premiership winner Cameron Mooney has vowed to put former Essendon star Tom Bellchambers on his “backside” as the duo gear up for their boxing debuts.
Mooney and Bellchambers will form part of the undercard for No Limit Boxing’s recently-announced card in Melbourne on May 24 which will be headlined by Joseph Parker taking on Faiga “Django’ Opelu.

The opportunity to step inside the ropes is an “itch” Mooney has wanted to “scratch” for quite some time and was set to face fellow AFL great Brendan Fevola but unfortunately the fight did not go ahead.
Mooney has also been training under the watchful eye of a former IBO world super featherweight champion in Will Tomlinson and is relishing the chance to “get in the ring and see what we can do.”
“I’ve loved boxing since I was a young man watching Mike Tyson fight in the lounge room with my brothers,” Mooney said.
“It’s been something I’ve really enjoyed. I’ve done a lot of boxing in the ring, sparring, all of those types of things during my footy training.
“Like I said, it’s something I’ve absolutely loved, something I’m pretty confident with and once it comes to fight night, I’m looking to do a job.”

As for how the fight will transpire, the 210-game Geelong great promised that “one of us is going to get knocked out.”
“We’re going to go in there, have some fun, throw some punches, see what happens,” Mooney said.
“Three rounds and we’ll go our hardest. Hopefully one of us gets knocked on our backsides and hopefully it’s Tommy.”
For No Limit CEO George Rose, he’s looking forward to seeing what former AFL stars can do having hosted several current and ex-NRL greats on their cards previously and even made a bold call on Bellchambers’ boxing lookalike.
“Our experience working in the past working with NRL players is that they’re the type of athletes that can cross over into any sports and they’ve got no fear into stepping into the ring,” Rose said.
“Now when we looked across at AFL, I assume it’s the same. AFL players are built tough, they’ve very athletic.
“I know a guy like Cam Mooney has been in boxing for quite some time. He’s been training and I’ve heard a bit about his reputation that he can well and truly throw them.
“He’s been someone who’s been wanting to get in the ring for quite some time.
“We’ve got him in against a massive guy in Tom Bellchambers. He actually looks a bit like Tyson Fury, the size of him.”
