If you don’t buy a ticket to the show, you’ll never know.

As Hollywood duo and Wrexham owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds basked in the glory of the Welsh club gaining promotion to the English Football League (EFL), a modern great sent them a congratulatory message.

“Hi Rob, just want to congratulate you on your promotion and everything you’re doing at Wrexham,” Gareth Bale said in a video.

Bale retired from professional football in January after helping Wales qualify for its first World Cup appearance in 64 years, bringing an end to a trophy-laden career.

However, McElhenney cheekily replied to Bale’s video on Twitter in an attempt to drag the former Real Madrid superstar off the couch and back onto the pitch.

“Hey @GarethBale11 let’s play golf, where I totally won’t spend 4 hours trying to convince you to un-retire for one last magical season,” McElhenney wrote.

Almost five hours later, Bale cheekily replied: “Depends what course” and tagged the official account of The R&A, hinting the Welsh wizard fancied 18 holes at the famous St Andrews course.

Of course, Reynolds couldn’t help but put in his best efforts to try and coax Bale out of retirement with a rather bizarre offer.

“I will shave a professional-grade golf course into Rob’s back if you’ll give Wrexham a season,” Reynolds wrote on Twitter.

Even The R&A got in on the fun.

Should Reynolds and McElhenney somehow tempt Bale to come out of retirement, it would be one of the greatest signing coups in football history.

It’s unlikely the 33-year-old would need a monster contract either given the six-year contract extension he signed with Madrid in 2016 where he earned a staggering $AUD49 million annually.

But as Reynolds and McElhenney have proved since taking over as Wrexham owners, we have to expect the unexpected.

And bringing Bale to The Racecourse might not entirely be out of the question just yet.
