WWE star Tommy “Zeus” Lister has died at the age of 62.

The hulking Hollywood star terrified the WWE universe briefly as icon Hulk Hogan’s enemy.

His role as the bad guy in Hogan’s hit 1989 film No Holds Barred was so successful the WWE moved immediately to bring him into the wrestling entertainment company as Hogan’s opponent in the ring.

He also made a cameo appearance towards the end of Hogan’s career in 1996, shocking the wrestling world with one of the most stunning comebacks in the history of the company.

Lister’s death on Friday (AEDT) was first reported by TMZ in a report which revealed he was not taken to hospital after being declared dead at the scene when an ambulance was sent to his Los Angeles apartment.

His agent, Cindy Cowan, confirmed the news to Variety.

“He was a wonderful guy with a heart of gold. Everyone loved him. A real gentle giant,” Cowan said. “We’re all devastated.”

The cause of death has not yet been announced.

While Lister was loved by millions for his wrestling career, he is best known for his Hollywood film appearances.

His portrayal of the character “Deebo” kick-started a successful acting career, which included roles in The Fifth Element, The Dark Night and Austin Powers: Goldmember.

Lister is still yet to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
